Cause:
This error occurs when you try to install a new Avast installation in a computer that has a corrupted installation of Avast Antivirus.

Solution:
1. Download Avast Uninstall Tool/Utility.
2. Start Windows in Safe Mode
3. Run the uninstall utility (aswclear.exe)

Please note: If you installed Avast antivirus in a different folder than the default, browse for it. Be careful though because the content of any folder you choose will be deleted.

4. Click REMOVE
5. Restart your computer.
6. You can now reinstall avast antivirus.

Here's a step-by-step guide if you want to set your Dare Global DB 108 ADSL2+ PLDT MyDSL modem into routing/router mode:

1. Manually assign an IP address to your computer. You need to access the configuration page of your modem/router. The default IP address of DareGlobal DB 108 ADSL2+ modem is 192.169.1.1. So, click Start and then point to My Network Places at the left side, click on View Network Connections. You can also double-click My Network Places in your desktop if it is present or go to Control Panel and then Network Connections.

2. Double Click Local Area Connection. A window will appear just like below.

3. Under This connection uses the following items, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then Properties.
4. Click Use the following IP address. Put 192.168.1.2 on IP address, Subnet mask will be automatically filled. On default gateway and preferred DNS server, input 192.168.1.1

5. Now click OK

6. Open any available Internet Browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Opera) and enter 192.168.1.1 to the address bar.


7. Your modem will ask for username and password. The default username for DareGlobal DB108 ADSL2+ modem is admin and the default password is password.

8. At the Configuration Page, click on WAN and edit 0/100 under VPI/VCI
(Please note: I'm here in Cavite so I need to edit 0/100. In some places, you may need to edit 0/35 instead.)

9. Click Next.
10. Select MAC Encapsulation Routing (MER) and under Encapsulation Mode select LLC/SNAP-Bridging. Click Next.

11. Click Next
12. Put a check on Enable NAT and Enable WAN Service. Click Next.

13. Click Save.

14. DO NOT Save and Reboot yet. Click on LAN on Left Menu. Select Enable DHCP Server. Now Click Save/Reboot.

15. Close your browser.

Optional: You can now repeat steps 1-5 but on step 4 select Obtain an IP address automatically and obtain DNS server automatically to avoid possible IP address conflicts in the future.

C-Media AC97 Audio Device - This Device Cannot Start. (Code 10)

Error Message:

Symptoms:
There is no sound. When you open up Device Manager, there is a yellow exclamation mark on C-Media AC97 Audio Device. When you double click C-Media AC97 Audio Device, under device status, it says:

Probable Cause:
This is a common problem when you have Realtek AC97 chipset. Somehow Windows XP recognize Realtek sound device as C-Media AC97 Audio Device.

Solution:
Download and install the latest version of Realtek AC97 driver and it should be fine. Here's a screenshot of a working one:

Sotec Winbook WV2150 - Audio and Video Driver WinXP/Vista

Here's a little info for those people looking for drivers of Sotec Winbook WV2150. I wish this will help those people having problems with the correct drivers because they can't identified the correct name/manufacturer/model of the hardware.

I recently installed a new hard drive into a Sotec Winbook WV2150. After doing a fresh install of Windows XP, the the audio and video card drivers are missing.

I used driverforge along with driver packs to install the missing drivers, but driverforge or maybe Windows itself incorrectly identified the sound card as C-Media AC'97. The device could not start according to the device manager, so the sounds don't work. The VGA was fine though, it is Sis 650_651_M650_M652_740. After some research, I found out that he correct sound card/audio driver should be Realtek AC'97 Audio Driver.

Google Chrome Offline Installer

Chrome is one of the best internet browser out there. If not for firefox extensions, Google chrome will be my main browser. Google Chrome is faster than Firefox (in my experience), and I like its tidy screen. I also like how it handle searches and url type-ins.

Front Panel Settings for Intel D845PT Socket 478 Motherboard

I recently replaced the motherboard of a client PC. The replacement motherboard is Intel D845PT. Unfortunately, there is no diagram for the On/Off switch, reset, HDD and power LED for the front panel on the motherboard. Here's a simple diagram for those people who needs it:

Solution: Network Connections Folder is Empty

Problems:

1. You can't connect to the internet
2. Network Connections folder is empty
3. Local Area Connections (LAN) icon on taskbar missing
4. Can't connect to Wireless connections (icon also missing)


Solution:
This thing happens when one of the three files below are missing on your computer:

1. netshell.dll
2. netcfgx.dll
3. netman.dll

Download those files if needed and place them on c:\windows\system32\ folder. After copying the files you need to register them. Click Start>Run>CMD and then type the following command (hit enter after each command).

regsvr32 netshell.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netman.dll

Your Network Connections will now be back to normal.

How to Install Windows XP using a USB Drive / Flash Drive the EASIEST way

NOTE: I used Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 as a test machine in this post but this will also work to any laptop/netbook/pc that can recognize USB devices as a boot option. This also works if you want to use Windows Vista.

The owner of this Lenovo S10-2 tried to upgrade his operating system to Windows Vista. The problem is he had some problem while installing it and his machine refused to load the OS. He also accidentally deleted the recovery partition, so the one-key recovery won't work to restore to factory default. The owner now wanted to install Windows XP instead of Vista.

I usually use my external DVD Rom drive for this kind of work (it's the easier than USB method) but it broke down a couple of days ago. So I have no other choice but to install from a flash drive).

Fortunately, installing from a USB drive is now easier than it used to be. There are programs out there that handle all the work for you. Unlike before that you need to fire up command prompt and issue some commands to prepare the flash drive/usb drive before it can be use to install Windows XP. That's the reason why I prefer installing from external DVD ROM drive before.


What you need:

1) An empty USB flash drive, at least 1 GB in size (Is it necessary to be empty? Yes, because the program we will use formats the USB drive before copying window files)
2) NoviCorp Wintoflash (download here)
(NOTE: As of this writing, the program is still in beta, though I have not encountered any error or problem using it, we all know that using beta softwares may cause problems or still has some bugs in it.)
3. Windows XP installer CD or a copy to your hard drive.


Steps on installing Windows Xp from Flash Drive:
1. Prepare your flash drive. Run WinToFlash.exe and choose the wizard.


This one is self explanatory. Windows files path would be your Windows CD and USB drive is your flash disk. Next window will be copying the setup files to your flash drive. In took about 30 minutes in my test using a 2 GB KingMax flash drive (I believe this result may vary depending on the speed of your source and your USB drive).

2. Turn on your laptop. Enter BIOS by pressing F2. Make sure that SATA Controller Mode is set to Compatible under Configuration. If you do not do this, the windows installer will not see your hard disk upon setup. Now Save and Exit.


3. Upon restart press F12 to choose Boot Device. Select your Flash Drive from the list:

4. This window will appear. Select 1st, text mode setup (boot from flash again after finish) here. You will now see the usual setup process when you install windows from CD.

5. When the initial copying of files is finish and the system restarts, you need to boot from flash drive again. But this time you will choose the first option in the picture above. (2nd, GUI mode setup). You will choose this option until the next 2 restarts and the first boot of windows. If you let it boot in hard disk, you will receive the error:

Windows could not start because the following files is missing or corrupt:
\system32\hal.dll
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

If that happens, just restart your laptop and choose to boot from flash drive. Installation of windows finished after 35 minutes in my test. It may vary depending on the speed of your laptop and your USB drive.

Boxing fans are all excited and their opinions might vary on who's really boxing's No. 1 pound-for-pound champion. Mayweather or Pacquiao?

Marquez will not be dominated in this fight. He will have a good performance. Mayweather fought from super featherweight to light welterweight for the vast majority of his career. He is a small welterweight. Who can compete with somebody like Baldomir and DLH only because of his allusiveness and defensive style. And hes yet to fight any legit threats at welterweight because he fears the risk of fighting somebody big and capable. And he is only a welter because he has swollen up as much as possible. Granted he has acclimated to this body type and is now very natural at 147.

And he is bigger and does have that advantage. I'm not disputing that. It isn't a fight that should be happening and I don't want to see it... at least until Marquez were to make a dent at the weight.

But again, weighing in at 135 against Casamayor and Juan Diaz... Marquez looked to me to be bigger and stronger. Maybe my eyes saw something different than others. I'm not trying to encourage guys like Pacman and JMM fighting at these higher weights when I'd MUCH rather see them at lightweight.

But look at it this way... Pacman destroyed Oscar at welter. Obviously we know what the state of Oscar was at the time. But he annihilated him a half a year after he dominated Forbes. A year and a half after he gave Floyd enough trouble. It's at the point where, while I still think it's a very big size mismatch, most people aren't even giving the size difference between Pacman and Hatton much of a thought at all. Now if you'll recall the fights between Pac and Marquez, Marquez often looked to be stronger and bigger than Pacman. He was the one doing a lot of the pushing and exposed Manny's weaknesses on the back foot.

Guys move up in weight differently. So we have yet to see how Marquez moves up since it's a big jump from lightweight to welter. But based on his size and strength in the last 3 fights, I just don't feel it's as big a mismatch as you guys are painting. But I do think it is a mismatch. Just more along the lines of the ones we see very regularly in the sport. And with Marquez ability's, I just think he can probably hold his own. I could be way off on this one.
